How do I locate the sound card on my computer and then how can it be made to work?
There is no sound on my computer, I have made all the adjustments and checked all the mutes etc. I need to locate the sound card and/or find a way to test it. Then maybe replace it. I guess maybe if there is another way to get it to work that would be best, whatever; I just need some sound.
The sound car is the one with the mic, audio in and audio out jacks most of the time it also has a MIDI port for keybord, joy sticks an game controllers. If you do have a sound card press down on the edge to make sure it is seated properly.Check if the audio cable from your master cd or dvd drive is pluged into the sound card and the drive. in Windows 95 98 ME right click my computer/ left click propertys/ Left click hardware look and see if the sound card is listed. IF it is on the list with yellow question mark by it Left click it then left click remove then apply restart the computer at boot up it should automaticly dectect it and install the driver. If it fails to find the driver follow the prompts to install the driver. Windows xp is simmilar except the my computer button is on the start menu Right click My computer/ left click propertys /left click hardware/ left click device manager/ look for the sound card on the list right click then / left click propertys follow the instructions to update the driver
