How does one get into a job at the long beach port as a dock hand?
Was wondering if anyone had any idea how to get it or any success stories. 
Pretty much all of the jobs are unionionized and you need to go through the union to get a job.
If you want to be a longshoreman than you need to put your name on a very long waiting list with the local ILWU 13. First you start out as a casual, which means you're on call, and then you wait for someone to quit or die then as the years pass you'll finally work your way up to being a full time employee.
